Ten Years After

Ten years ago we spent lives of young Americans to take Fallujah. First in April 2004, then again in November. 151 U.S. fatalities. 650+ U.S. wounded. What the hell ever amount of money and material.

But that was ten years ago and we weren’t serious about making any real change. So Al-Qaeda waited us out and now the Washington Post is reporting that Al-Qaeda has taken Fallujah, raised their flag, and declared an Islamic state.

Remember the street battles in Berlin and Tokyo in 1955?

  1. Take up the White Man’s burden–
    The savage wars of peace–
    Fill full the mouth of Famine
    And bid the sickness cease;
    And when your goal is nearest
    The end for others sought,
    Watch sloth and heathen Folly
    Bring all your hopes to nought.
    (Rudyard Kipling)

  2. We got there as they were mopping up after the 2nd Battle of Fallujah in Dec 04. Left in Jan 05, then went back a few times…that last time about April 05…and got a really good look at the rebuilding…which wasn’t happening. about 75-80% of that city was blowed up!

  3. Can’t say it better than Bob did… And a SAD state of affairs for the Marines who bled so much there…

  4. Other stats not published, there were over 3,000 people “detained” during and after the battle. Every one of them got a proper and legal interrogation. Many of them were “foreign fighters” from outside the country.
