It Was…

Update: Read the comments, which opens with this line, “Generally I agree with your posts, but I thought this was a bunch of crap when an acquaintance of mine posted it as “truth” months ago, and my opinion hasn’t changed.” I thoughtfully considered this reply and like OldNFO, am torn on the post. There are still parts of it I consider valid, but theunpaidBill makes his point. And to answer the question about moving to another country, well, yes, I’d like to move to the America I grew up in.

  1. Generally I agree with your posts, but I thought this was a bunch of crap when an acquaintance of mine posted it as “truth” months ago, and my opinion hasn’t changed.

The screed Jeff Daniels so convincingly spews seems like it makes sense, but it really doesn’t.

The countries he names as “free”, not really to any great degree. They are all one short step from full socialism or fascism. None of them have even the barest nod to anyone’s rights being protected. Hell just say something unpopular in Canada and find out how “free” you are to express yourself.

The projects he extolls? Big government vanity projects.

The wars fought for moral reasons? A bunch of crap. The closest would have been WWII, and it wasn’t until it was over that we found out how evil the Nazis and Japanese were. The US fought in WWII when they did purely and simply because we were attacked and that angered people (rightfully). Had Japan left us alone Hitler could have happily depopulated all of Europe without the US intervening.

Yes there are problems, but ask yourself, is there another country where you’d rather live?
