My Philosophy

Pr. Obama recently said the following, speaking about how conservatives think:

And their philosophy is simple: We are better off when everybody is left to fend for themselves and play by their own rules.

To prevent the charge that I am taking something out of context, here is the White House transcript of the speech. Anyway, I’m not disagreeing with him. The Founders built a government on the premise that everyone was better off when they fended for themselves. The second part I would edit to say “play by one shared set of rules”. But other than that, and that really a quibble, President Obama has stated my philosophy clearly.

Unfortunately, neither he, nor the Congress, nor anyone running on the Republican side, shares that view.

  1. Let's see how this works-out. If we shouldn't be permitted to fend for ourselves, who should be permitted to fend for us?

What if they refuse to? Will they be compelled? How can free people be forced to do something that they don't want to?

What if others are incapable of fending for us? Will we then be permitted to fend for ourselves? What if those forced to fend for us, don't do it in a manner that is acceptable to an individual? Will that individual then be permitted to “supplement” approved fending with their own?
