Victory or Death

December 26th, 1776. George Washington crossed the Delaware River with 2400 troops to attack the winter quarters of the Hessian mercenaries that were under contract to the British Crown. The weather was terrible. Sleet turning to snow. The men carried 60 rounds of ammunition and bayonets. The password was Victory or Death.

Lots of details here.

Update: Does Newt read my blog? Really, less than 12 hours after I made this post, the Drudge Report has a link to this: Newt Gingrich’s “Victory or Death”
