Studebaker

Just a typical ad from 1945.


Studebaker closed it’s last U.S. manufacturing plant in 1963. The South Bend plant sat empty for decades, the floor of the foundry building filled with unused engines left over from WWII.

The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

  1. IIRC, they were very large engines, I think diesels or large industrial engines.. Most had a gearbox of some sort attached.

    I was there in either 2000 or 2001.

  2. You can see the gearbox on them in the picture. I suspect they were engines for tracked vehicles or boats. Somewhere on the intrawebz is the answer.
