Just got home from traveling to Parris Island, South Carolina to attend my son’s graduation ceremony. We made it a vacation. Went to the beach a couple of times, spent some time wandering around the base, visited old friends.

Every week, the Drill Instructors finish a series of platoons and graduate a few hundred new Marines into the Fleet Marine Force. Last week it was M Company, 3rd Battalion finishing up. In Platoon 3072, one of seven Platoons to graduate, my son finished the process of becoming a Marine.

I took a lot of pictures. Of all of them, this one is my favorite. A hot, tired platoon moving along one of the unpaved trails. It is any platoon, and every platoon.

For over 221 years our Corps has done two things for this great Nation. We make Marines, and we win battles.
